Elevator/Cultural Shaft
Entry for the 1997 Paris Prize in Public Architecture, Van Alen Institute, NY, Cultural Information Exchange: Real/Virtual Downtown Competition
Distinguished Entry Award
The Paris Prize calls for a temporary structure for the downtown Wall Street area to house an information center that includes public gathering spaces, exhibition spaces, and services for access to cultural events in NY. The proposal is a ‘black box’ elevator that rides horizontally, connecting discreet entities within the ‘shaft’ (perforated tube) of the open public space.
